The effect of hexamethonium bromide upon coronary flow, cardiac work and cardiac efficiency in normotensive and renal hypertensive dogs.

چکیده
Hexamethonium bromide in normotensive and renal hypertensive dogs resulted in significant reductions in arterial blood pressure, cardiac output and cardiac work. Ihe decrease in cardiac output relative to that in blood pressure suggests that the blood pressure reduction was largely due to the decrease in cardiac output. There was a decrease in coronary flow accompanied by an increase in myocardial oxygen extraction of such degree that cardiac oxygen consumption remained unchanged. Since myocardial oxygen consumption remained unchanged despite the decrease in cardiac work the calculated cardiac efficiency was decreased.

The effect of hexamethonium upon cerebral blood flow and metabolism in patients with premalignant and malignant hypertension.
In 13 patients with grade III or grade IV hypertensive retinopathy the effect of intramuscular hexamethonium bromide on cerebral circulation and metabolism has been studied. The results have been compared with Dewar's study of hexamethonium in less severe hypertensive patients and with Kety's results following differential spinal sympathetic block. Sixty minutes after in-tramuscular hexamethoni...
متن کاملPhasic right coronary artery blood flow in conscious dogs with normal and elevated right ventricular pressures.
We studied phasic right coronary blood flow in well trained normal dogs and dogs with pulmonic stenosis. We installed electromagnetic flow transducers and pressure tubes under anesthesia to monitor right coronary blood flow, cardiac output, central aortic blood pressure, and right ventribular pressure. In normotensive dogs, systolic flow amplitude equaled early diastolic flow levels. The ratio ...
متن کاملSystemic and coronary hemodynamic effects of pinacidil in awake normotensive and hypertensive dogs.
We studied the systemic and coronary hemodynamic effects of a new antihypertensive agent, pinacidil, in nine morphine-sedated chronically instrumented dogs with one-kidney renal hypertension and eight similarly treated sham-operated normotensive dogs. The renal hypertensive dogs exhibited higher mean aortic blood pressure, total peripheral vascular resistance, and plasma renin activity before p...

Moderate reduction in blood pressure by intravenous hexamethonium or pentamethonium was accompanied by a decrease in stroke volume, cardiac output, and left ventricular work, and no change or an increase in peripheral resistance. Renal blood flow, filtration rate, and potassium clearance fell promptly, but returned to the original levels within one to two hours despite continued reduction in bl...
